Alkannin pigment extracted from Alkanet root is primarily used as a natural dying agent, and it imparts a ruby red color to natural fibers, wool, wood, stone, lip balm, lipstick, ointments, salve, soap, lotion, and to tint oils, vinegar, tinctures, varnishes, or wine. In the past, Alkanet root was used to improve the appearance of low quality wines and ports, and to give an aged appearance to wine corks.

The main composition is Shikonin & ramification.
Soluble in ethanol, acetone, hexane, petroleum and other organic solvents & oils. Insoluble in water, but soluble in alkaline solution. Under acid condition, the color appear red.
Under neutral condition, the color appear dark purple. It will turn to dark purple when meeting iron ion. Alkannin pigment got warm welcome as certain antibacterial effect.

Alkannin pigment application

Cold drinks (except edible ice), cakes, biscuits, baked food fillings, fruit and vegetable juice (pulp) drinks, flavored drinks, fruit average & wine.
Feature:
Gromwell red pigment is not high temperature resistant offered by other ordinary manufactures.
Gromwell red natural pigment have excellent heat resistance, which can be applied in all kinds of food.
Usage way: Mix with material directly
Suggested dosage: 0.05%~0.3% adjust as per application need
